The General Legal Council (GLC) has established three new disciplinary panels aimed at reinforcing ethical standards and boosting public confidence in The Gambia’s legal profession.
The panels, sworn in by Chief Justice and GLC Chairperson Justice Hassan B. Jallow, will handle complaints against lawyers, ensuring accountability and compliance with professional conduct under the Legal Practitioners (Amendment) Act, 2024.
Each panel is chaired by a High Court Judge—Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, Justice Sarah Aryee, and Justice Isatou Janneh—and includes members representing both the Public and Private Bars.
Chief Justice Jallow described their role as a “sacred duty” to uphold integrity, urging members to act transparently, impartially, and in line with the rule of law.
Speaking on behalf of the panels, Justice Jaiteh said their work will mark a “critical milestone in promoting ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability.”
The ceremony concluded with Chief Justice Jallow expressing confidence that the panels’ expertise and integrity will help preserve the dignity and credibility of the legal profession in The Gambia.
