Enhance maritime security: Gambia Navy conducts routine training exercise.

The Gambia Navy, in collaboration with the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), maritime stakeholders and other security services, on January 28 took part in the annual International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code exercise at the Banjul Port anchorage.

Under the ISPS Code, the Navy is mandated to respond to maritime safety and security incidents, including emergencies involving critical infrastructure such as ports.

As part of this role, the Navy maintains a trained marine detachment and conducts regular harbour patrols within port areas and surrounding maritime approaches.

The exercise provided an opportunity for the Gambia Navy to assess its operational readiness and review its preparedness in safeguarding key maritime infrastructure against a range of potential security threats.
