Building Better Institutions: MoFEA Begins Two-Day Review Workshop with EU Support

The Directorate of Agencies and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) under the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs today opened a Two-Day Workshop on the Review of Government Agencies Reporting to the Ministry of Finance, at Ocean Bay Hotel.

Supported by the European Union in The Gambia, the workshop aims to strengthen governance, improve service delivery, enhance financial management and promote greater accountability across public agencies.

Delivering the welcoming remarks, Director of SOEs, Ms. Amie Khan, underscored the vital role Government Agencies play in national development and highlighted a major milestone achieved in 2024: the establishment of the Directorate of Agencies. This new structure, she said, enhances oversight, coordination and performance monitoring across institutions.

The keynote address was delivered by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of MoFEA, Mr. Ansumana Sanneh, who emphasised the need for honest reflection, collaboration and shared responsibility in building responsive and well-governed institutions.

Representatives from the European Union, including Mr. Tarik Kubach and Technical Assistance Expert Mr. Philip Kelly, delivered remarks reaffirming the EU’s continued partnership in advancing governance reforms in The #Gambia.

Over the next two days, participants will review policy, legal and regulatory frameworks, identify challenges and chart practical reforms that promote efficiency, transparency and value for money in public institutions. The opening session was moderated by Principal Regulatory Officer at MoFEA, Mr. Malick Jeng.
