The United Democratic Party (UDP) has called for urgent independent investigations into allegations involving some of The Gambia’s most senior officials, including National Security Adviser Abubakarr Suleiman Jeng, Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Mamat O. Cham, and Deputy Speaker Seedy S.K. Njie.
As questions continue to swirl around the officials named, the main opposition party said claims ranging from links to suspected drug traffickers and corruption to tribal discrimination “cannot simply be ignored, politicized, or dismissed without proper investigations.”
The UDP warned that public confidence in national security institutions could be severely damaged if the claims remain unresolved and argued that public office “must never be used for personal enrichment, tribal favoritism, political discrimination, or criminal enterprise.”
The party said the allegations reinforce its call for comprehensive Security Sector Reform (SSR), which UDP leader Ousainou Darboe has repeatedly described as essential to restoring accountability, professionalism and public trust in state institutions.
