Two Thousand Gambians Left in November, UDP’s Camara Warns

By: The Fatu Network News Desk

Saikou Camara, the UDP’s Administrative Secretary for Media and Communication, says two thousand young Gambians left the country in November through irregular migration, calling the situation a national emergency.

Citing data from migrant and human rights activist Ebrima Drammeh, who runs Ebrima Migrants Situation, a community based initiative and platform that tracks and reports on irregular migration cases, Camara said the departures included 1,560 men, 224 women including pregnant women, 126 minors and 7 infants, with 24 already confirmed dead.

“The future of our nation is bleeding away before our eyes. It is time for leadership, accountability and urgent action, because every Gambian life matters,” he said.
