As part of the ongoing discussions on the linkage between human rights and corruption, and strategies to address corruption, the NHRC in partnership with OHCHR, launched a two-day regional workshop on human rights-based approach to anti-corruption. The event is being held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center from April 23 to 24, 2025.
The workshop has drawn participants from across the African continent, including representatives of national human rights institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners.
In his opening remarks, the Chairperson of the NHRC emphasized the far-reaching consequences of corruption, calling it one of the most deeply rooted barriers to human rights realization.
Corruption is one of the most deeply entrenched impediments to the realization of human rights, good governance, and sustainable development. It undermines every one of the Sustainable Development Goals. It diverts resources from essential services, erodes public trusts, and perpetrates inequality and injustice,” he stated.
Participants will engage in a series of presentations, discussions, case study analysis and the use of the United Nations Human Rights mechanisms to combat corruption and its widespread impact.
