The Supreme Islamic Council (SIC) on Sunday 15th March 2026 wraps up it’s Ramadan food distribution to vulnerable families across the country. This latest intervention took place at its headquarters in Kanifing along MDI Road
According to Sheikh Kalipha Dampha head of the organizing committee, after receiving support from Chinese and Mauritanian embassies, Agib Bank, Essa Maybe Faal and Prince Ibrahim Jarjou, our intention was initially to provide basic food items which includes rice, sugar and cooking oil to one thousand families but unfortunately we are able to give out to five hundred and sixty (560). This include 100 in URR, 100 in CRR, 100 in NBR, 60 in LRR, WCR 130 and 70 in KM and Banjul. Every family who were lucky to be included received 50kg rice, 25kg sugar and 5litre groundnut cooking oil.
Sheikh Ibrahim Jagana head of the finance committee prayed to Allah so that the initiative could continue in many years to come. He also extend prayers to all the donors and individuals who contributed D100 dalasi and more towards the success of the operation.
Imam Bai Saine on behalf of the Imam Ratib of Banjul hailed the SIC for a job well done while assuring Imam Ratib and the Banjul Muslim Elders continuous collaboration and support to the council.
In closing, Sheikh Ebrahima Masanneh Jarju 2nd Vice President of the Supreme Islamic Council who also doubles as Amirul Hajj stated that SIC is not only to educate but also advising people towards good deeds like the one we are witnessing today. If you contribute even a single dalasi, Allah will reward you for it, he said. If you give out a bag of rice to a family, how many people will consume that rice, he asked. The payment is only with Allah. For us at the council, what we can do is to continue praying for our donors. We thanked them and prayed for them to have more strength inorder to do more in the future.
