President Barrow receives three new ambassadors accredited to the Gambia at State House, today.
The diplomats from the Republic of Chad Mrs. Kalzeube Neldinkingar Madjimta, United Nations System Country Representative, Mr. Karl Frederick Paul, and the Ambassador from the Kingdom of Spain, María Dolores Ríos Peset, presented their credentials to the Head of State.
Following the presentations, President Barrow engaged in a cordial conversation with each of the Ambassadors, and extended congratulations to them and their Heads of State.
In a bilateral meeting with Chad’s Ambassador, President Barrow highlighted the potential for African countries to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation to facilitate the free movement of goods and services. The President extended appreciation to the former President of Chad H.E Mahamat Idriss Déby and congratulated him for his effort in conducting a peaceful election.
Ambassador Madjimta expressed her gratitude to the President for accepting her credentials and for effectively coordinating the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. She also affirmed her commitment to enhancing the bilateral relationship between The Gambia and Chad.
The relationship between The Gambia and the UN System is expected to be strengthened during Mr Karl Frederick Paul’s tenure. In a meeting with the UN System resident representative, discussions centered on security sector reform, human rights, peacekeeping missions, and the preservation of peace. President Barrow expressed optimism for a new era of enhanced relations and cooperation between The Gambia and New York. Furthermore, he reiterated his dedication to enhancing peace missions to promote stability.
The new UN representative congratulated President Barrow and the people of The Gambia on the progress made in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
During discussions with the Spanish Ambassador, The Gambia and Spain expressed their mutual interest in collaborating to address poverty. The President expressed gratitude to the Spanish government for their extensive support to The Gambia, emphasizing the strength of their bilateral relationship. Additionally, he conferred with the Ambassador on the possibility of exempting diplomatic passport holders from visa requirements.
The Spanish Ambassador to The Gambia expressed commitment to improving consular services and introducing the Secular Migration Programme aimed at creating employment opportunities for Gambians in Spain.
The event was attended by the Minister for Defense, Honourable Serign Modou Njie, Secretary to Cabinet Mr Alieu Njie, Bernard Mendy, and Omar Baldeh from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
