Police arrest suspect in alleged murder of woman in Brikama Misira

The Gambia Police Force has arrested a man in connection with the alleged murder of 40-year-old Fatou Sambou of Kembujeh Madina, whose body was discovered on her groundnut farm behind the Brikama Power Station on 2 December.

Crime Scene Investigators responded to the location and evacuated the victim to the Brikama District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her body was later moved to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

According to the police, swift investigative work — supported by cooperation from key stakeholders — enabled detectives to track the victim’s stolen mobile phone, which led to the prime suspect.

Officers subsequently arrested 26-year-old Sulayman Saidykhan of Bakary Sambouya, a former soldier with a previous criminal conviction. He was found in possession of the deceased’s phone.

Police say the suspect has been cautioned, charged and placed in custody as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances of the killing.
