MOBSE holds Intensive Training for National Core Trainers

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) is working hard to prepare for the nation-wide launch of the Foundational Learning (FL) Programme by holding a six-day intensive training for National Core Trainers (NCTs) at Jerreh Camp in the North Bank Region.
The training, organized by the In-Service Education and Training Unit (INSET) under the Directorate of In-Service Training and Lifelong Learning (DITaLL), aims to equip selected NCTs with the necessary skills to effectively use FL instructional materials, teaching methods, and facilitation techniques. These trainers will then lead the rollout of the FLP in Early Childhood Development (ECD) 2-3 and Grades 1-3 during the current academic year.
Under a cascade training model, the NCTs will act as master facilitators, training National Trainers (NTs) who will then train classroom teachers across the country. This approach ensures consistency and quality in teaching foundational learning in the seven national languages (Mandinka, Pulaar, Wolof, Soninke, Manjaku, Jola, and Serere) in all public ECDs and Lower Basic Schools.
The opening ceremony, which took place earlier this week, was attended by senior officials from MoBSE, including the Permanent Secretary, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration), and Directors from various departments. Education partners like Learning Masterminds and Effective Intervention also participated, highlighting the ministry’s strong commitment to inclusive and fair education through collaborative efforts.
Through a combination of presentations, discussions, and practical sessions, participants are exploring innovative methods to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes.
