Jammeh Assets Probe Remains Active as Assembly Adjourns Sine Die

By: Fatou Krubally

The National Assembly on Wednesday adjourned sine die after concluding the Fourth Ordinary Session, with lawmakers reaffirming their commitment to ongoing investigations into the sale of assets linked to former President Yahya Jammeh.

Moving the adjournment motion, Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay said the Assembly had taken a “historic” step during the legislative year by establishing a Special Select Committee to investigate the disposal of assets identified by the Janneh Commission. He noted that the committee’s public hearings had already demonstrated Parliament’s resolve to hold the Executive to account.

Although the committee’s final report is yet to be presented, the Assembly extended its mandate, allowing members to continue probing the transactions surrounding the assets and related matters.

The session, which began on 31 October, also saw lawmakers adopt several oversight reports, including audit findings on government accounts and state-owned enterprises. Ministers responsible for finance, justice, interior and other key sectors appeared before the Assembly to respond to questions and committee reports.

As the country moves toward an election year, lawmakers urged restraint in political discourse while assuring the public that accountability issues raised during the session remain under active parliamentary scrutiny.
