Inauguration of CoPSA, A New Chapter for CBPSS Students

On Thursday, 31st July 2025, the University of Education The Gambia’s Community Based Policing and Security Studies (CBPSS) program held a landmark event on the inauguration of the first ever executive committee of the newly established Community Policing Students Association (CoPSA).

Now in its 7th cohort, the CBPSS program continues to grow in impact and engagement. This historic move to formalize student representation through CoPSA marks a major milestone in empowering student leadership within the security studies field.

Mr. Demba S.M Yarbo, Registrar of UEG, speaking on behalf of the Provost, congratulated the students and commended the initiative. He encouraged the new executive to lead with integrity and assured them of continued administrative support.

Assistant Inspector General of Police Ebrima Bah, representing the Inspector General of The Gambia Police Force as Guest Speaker, urged the CoPSA leaders to be servant leaders, putting the interests of their peers before their own. He reaffirmed the Gambia Police Force’s commitment to the CBPSS program and its future success.

Other notable speakers included A representative from the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services in the person of Assistant Fire Officer, The Vice Provost of UEG, Madam Isatou Ndow and a representative from the Commissioner General of GRA.

Mr. Kutubo Sanneh, President of CoPSA, expressed gratitude to his fellow students for the trust placed in him. He pledged a leadership committed to service and inclusion. He also called on national security institutions to support financial aid initiatives for needy CBPSS students in terms of their tuition fees.

The ceremony featured a powerful drama on land disputes, showcasing how community policing can be instrumental in peacefully resolving civil conflicts.
