In a tragic incident, four cows belonging to Alhagie Sowe from Nana Lowbe in the Niamina West District were killed by lightning during a thunderstorm last night. The incident occurred in Jarra Darsilameh where intense weather conditions struck the region, leading to the unfortunate loss.

The local community, shocked by the event, is now in contact with the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) for assistance and support. Such weather-related incidents highlight the vulnerability of rural farmers, whose livestock are vital to their livelihoods.

The NDMA is expected to assess the situation and provide the necessary relief to Alhagie Sowe, as well as ensure measures are taken to protect other communities from similar incidents in the future.

As climate change continues to impact weather patterns across The Gambia, rural communities remain at risk from such extreme events, underscoring the need for stronger disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies.
