Audit Report:Works ministry says 337million NBR roads construction discrepancy is misleading.

The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure wishes to inform the general public that the Auditor General’s Report purportedly claiming a D377 million discrepancy in the road contract of the North Bank Region is grossly misleading and patently false.

The Ministry wants to put on record that the reported discrepancy was in fact either a misreporting or a deliberate omission on the part of the Auditor General, as the stated facts and documentary evidence were provided by the Ministry to the auditors during the audit process.

For the purpose of clarity and avoidance of doubt, the Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure confirms that in October 2020, it signed a contract with Areski Company to construct 38 km of roads in the North Bank Region (NBR) for a period of 16 months. Subsequently, an additional 16.5km was added to the scope of the contract through Addendum Number 1 which was signed on 16th February 2022.

Therefore, the D377 million which the Auditor General flagged as discrepancy was in fact accountably spent on the project as Addendum.
