ActionAid trains the MansaKonko Area Council Staff on Human Rights

 

The staff of Mansakonko Area Council and Councillors are currently attending 5 a five-day training on Introduction to Human Rights, Concept and principle of Human Rights organised by ActionAid International, the Gambia at Moses Lodge in Jarra Soma.

The Chairman of the Council, Mr. Landing B. Sanneh, in his opening statement, said he is delighted over the presence of staff and Councillors. He said the five (5) days of training are purposely designed to learn human rights, concepts, principles, and related matters. He submitted that the right approach in terms of development is to prioritise the needs and aspirations of the citizenry. He said ActionAid International, The Gambia, had advocated for the involvement of female members in the tribunal courts within the six Districts of LRR.

He disclosed that the Mansakonko Area Council is part of the first Council to choose a female Representative for the tribunal courts. He said the development of the strategic plan of the Council and the five-day training was part of his discussion with ActionAid officials. He emphasised the importance of having good working relations with partners.

He assured the officials of ActionAid International that the Council is ready to work with them and has urged Councillors and Council staff to actively partake in the discussions and share their experience.
