Momodou Jawo Jallow, the Councillor for Nyambai Ward at the Brikama Area Council, has distributed over D250,000 worth of football materials to seven clubs in his ward.
The items were funded through the Brikama Area Council Development Fund, which provides resources to each councillor for community development.
Speaking at the presentation, Councillor Jawo highlighted that the donation was part of his campaign promise to empower young people and women in his community.
“This is one of my campaign promises that I will empower youths and women in my community. I have taught this with my Ward Development Committee and we camp up with the ideas to buy sports materials for clubs in our ward,” Jawo said.
The chairman of the Brikama Area Council Yankuba Darboe, commended Jawo for his foresight and described the initiative as a key reason behind his support for the Ward Development Fund.
“The reason why I was passionate and a key supporter of the Ward Development Fund I know if we had to do everything at the Council level these are some of the small but very important developments we might have forgotten or oversighted due to other major works like infrastructure, drainage systems, waste management and others.
“If this becomes a continuous thing it will motivate a lot of youths into football and we know football now it is an avenue or an industry that can easily turn people into millionaires. We have seen the likes of Yankuba Minteh and Musa Barrow are millionaires now,” Yanks Darboe said.
Ismaila Cherno Jallow, the vice chairman of the Brikama Area Council and Councillor for Suba Ward, also praised the donation.
“The donation has made me to receive several calls from youths in my Ward asking me for similar gestures using the Ward Development Fund,” he noted.
