2026 Senior Schools Athletics: Over 7,000 athletes due to partake in the competition

The Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) has announced that more than 7,000 student-athletes are expected to participate in its upcoming national sports competition.

Speaking at a press conference, the Secretary General of the Association, Lamin A. Jammeh, revealed that interest from schools across the country has been overwhelming.

“We are expecting 250 schools according to statistics that were given from our Regional Coordinators as per the schools that are interested to be part of the programme.

So when you look at the 250 schools, at least each school is expected to fill in between 25 to 30 athletes. That means we are expected to have over 7,000 athletes that are coming to take part in the competition,” Jammeh said.

Mr Jammeh added that the figures reflect the growing enthusiasm for school sports and the expanding reach of the Association’s programmes nationwide.
