The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), through its Border Patrol Unit (BPU) and Migration Management Units (MMU), has intercepted sixty (60) suspected would-be irregular migrants in separate operations in the West Coast and North Bank Regions.
On Monday, 5 October 2026, GIDโs BPU stationed in Tanji intercepted forty-seven (47) suspected irregular migrants in Brusubi and Sambuyang in the West Coast Region. The group comprised six (6) Gambians, thirty-eight (38) Senegalese and three (3) Guinean nationals, including thirty-two (32) males, fifteen (15) females and three (3) minors.
A day earlier, on Sunday, 4th October 2026, the GID North Bank Region Border Patrol Unit intercepted thirteen (13) suspected would-be migrants in Essau. The group comprised five (5) Bissau-Guineans, three (3) Sierra Leoneans, two (2) Guineans, two (2) Ivorians, and one (1) Malian, including nine (9) males and four (4) females.
GID calls on citizens, residents, community elders, civil society organisations, the media, and all stakeholders to join efforts to mitigate and eventually eradicate irregular migration in The Gambia.
