The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) North Bank Regional Command has apprehended a Sierra Leonean national, Ibrahim Buckle Kargbo, who is alleged to have absconded with a large sum of money.

The apprehension followed a report from Mr. Alieu Jaiteh, a staff member of BK Cash and Carry Supermarket, who alleged that the suspect, a driver employed at the same establishment, fled with an amount estimated at approximately one million Dalasis.

Upon receipt of the suspect’s particulars, including his driver’s licence, NBR Commissioner, Mr. Mustapha Senghore, promptly circulated the information triggering an immediate search and screening operation.

At about 4:30am, today, 31st January 2026, the suspect was intercepted by AICO Alhagie Sarr with an amount of D42, 045, while attempting to cross the border. He was detained at the Kerr Ali Border Post, and subsequently handover to the Gambia Police Force for further investigation.

The GID remains committed to safeguarding national security and supporting law enforcement efforts in the fight against crime.
