The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), through its Border Patrol Unit (BPU), in collaboration with the Migration Management Unit (MMU) stationed at Tanji, launched a joint operation in Bakau that led to the interception of thirty-five (35) suspected would-be migrants. Among the group were three (3) suspected migrant smugglers and sailors, one (1) of whom is a Gambian and two (2) Senegalese.

The intercepted would-be migrants and the alleged smugglers and sailors are currently in custody in Tanji, assisting officers in their investigations.

The group comprises eight (8) Gambians, twenty-six (26) Senegalese and one (1) Malian. The group included twenty-four (24) males, eleven (11) females, and one (1) minor.

The interception underscores GIDโ€™s continued commitment to combating irregular migration and disrupting the activities of human traffickers and migrant smugglers who seek to exploit Gambian territory as a transit point.
