UTG Education Students Association Promotes National Languages

The Education Students Association of The University of The Gambia (UTG) is currently on an inspiring tour to promote the use of national languages throughout the school system, in alignment with the National Education Policy 2016 – 2030. This significant initiative reflects the association’s commitment to preserving and propagating linguistic heritage across educational institutions.

On their tour, the 14th Executive of the association engaged in a fruitful discussion with the school authorities of Mingdaw. The dialogue centered on the importance of integrating national languages into the curriculum to enhance cultural identity and linguistic diversity among students.

The National Education Policy 2016 – 2030 underscores the need for a multilingual approach to education, recognizing the role of national languages in fostering a sense of belonging and pride in one’s cultural heritage. The Education Students Association’s efforts to implement this policy are commendable, as they aim to ensure that students across The Gambia can learn and appreciate their native languages alongside global languages.

By promoting national languages, the UTG Education Students Association is not only enriching the educational landscape but also contributing to the preservation of The Gambia’s rich linguistic heritage. This initiative is expected to have a lasting impact on students, fostering a deeper connection to their cultural roots and promoting inclusivity within the education system.

The school authorities of Mingdaw expressed their support and enthusiasm for this initiative, recognizing its potential to enhance students’ learning experiences and cultural awareness. The collaboration between the association and the school marks a positive step towards achieving the goals outlined in the National Education Policy.

The Education Students Association extends its gratitude to the school authorities of Mingdaw for their warm reception and active participation in the discussions.
