This information was revealed at a press conference to express their discontent about their welfare situation which includes staff being deducted income tax from their monthly salary as indicated in their pay slip but not paid to the Gambia Revenue Authority.
The USET says a meeting was convened to settle the frustration of the staff but promises were not fulfilled.
” Distinguished ladies and gentlemen financial liabilities have trapped USET staff especially the subordinates in shackles of impoverishment, financial oppression, and stagnation as well as social disempowerment.” Management quoted
The USET staff revealed in detail the financial issues causing disgruntlement.
“Failure of settling arrears of the staff welfare monthly contributions and discontinuing depositing these funds to our staff welfare account despite its deductions. This lapse started in March 2023 up to date. This money amounts to D262,800.00.”
The USET staff further disclosed that their credit union is insolvent which makes it virtually impossible for staff to withdraw their own savings.
This they said is due to incomplete payment of arrears owed to the credit union by USET amounting to D1,432,036.
The staff calls on authorities to address their frustration.
