A man who admitted to storing and selling unregistered medical products in Serekunda has been convicted by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Modou Gaye was found guilty of storing medicines in unauthorized premises, contrary to Section 59(1)(e) of the Medicines and Related Products Act 2025.

He appeared before Magistrate Awa Manneh, while Chief Inspector Bojang represented the Inspector General of Police.

Prosecutors told the court that on 24 June 2025, Gaye was found in possession of a wide range of unlicensed medical and cosmetic products, including pro-white collagen cubes, flash creams, Aboniki balms, Max Man products, and other assorted items. The products, according to the prosecution, were kept without any lawful authority.

Gaye pleaded guilty, claiming the shop did not belong to him and that he had been working under a supervisor.

Chief Inspector Bojang narrated that the Medicines Control Agency (MCA), together with other security units, had launched a joint operation targeting illegal medicine dealers and unregistered outlets. During the raid in Serekunda, officers identified themselves to Gaye before searching the premises. The unlicensed items were discovered, seized, and he was subsequently escorted to the police station.

All the confiscated items were tendered before the court and admitted into evidence.

In his plea for leniency, Gaye told the court he was unaware that the products needed to be registered and insisted he was only managing the shop for his employer. Records presented to the court indicated he was a first-time offender.

In her ruling, Magistrate Manneh ordered that Gaye be fined or, in default, serve six months in prison. She also directed that all seized products be destroyed by the Medicines Control Agency.
