The United Democratic Party (UDP) has taken note of an audio currently circulating on social media in which an individual, alleged to be a sympathizer of the party, makes tribal and xenophobic remarks against a particular tribe.
While the individual in the audio did not identify himself as a member of the UDP, the party wishes to state clearly and unequivocally that we strongly condemn and completely distance ourselves from all forms of tribalism, xenophobia, and hate speech. Such utterances are unacceptable, irresponsible, and fundamentally contrary to the values, principles, and long-standing tradition of the UDP.
The UDP is a national party built on unity, inclusiveness, tolerance, and respect for the dignity of all Gambians, regardless of tribe, ethnicity, religion, or background. We believe that The Gambia’s diversity is a source of strength, not division.
We urge all citizens, supporters, and sympathizers to conduct themselves responsibly, especially in their public utterances, and to reject narratives that seek to divide our people along tribal or ethnic lines.
The UDP remains firmly committed to promoting national cohesion, peaceful coexistence, and respect for our shared identity as one people and one nation.
