Trial of Sacrilegious Man in Farato Mosque Case Resumes

By: Isatou Sarr

The trial of Mamadu Jallow, a Farato resident accused of breaking into a local mosque with the intent to steal, resumed before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court recently.

Jallow faces charges under Section 285A of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. During proceedings, prosecution witness Muhammed Leigh, a resident of Brikama Nyambai, recounted discovering Jallow inside the mosque during his early morning prayers. According to Leigh, a crowd had confronted Jallow as he allegedly attempted to steal an electronic device from the mosque. Leigh observed that the ceiling of the veranda was broken and the door glass removed, suggesting forced entry.

After the Fajr (early morning) prayer, Jallow was handed over to the Nyambai Police Station for further investigation. Under cross-examination, Jallow asked the witness whether he had found any tools that could be used for breaking in. To answer that question, Leigh replied that no tools were discovered as the accused had already been apprehended. Jallow had no further questions for the witness.

At that stage, the prosecuting officer, Corporal E. Fofana, requested that the court discharge the witness and then applied for an adjournment to call the next prosecution witness. The court granted both applications, adjourning the matter to December 3, 2025, for the testimony of the fourth witness.
