Team Restore Confidence, led by GFF presidential candidate Sadibou Kamaso, has presented a proposed financial package aimed at improving club football in The Gambia.
The plan covers the men’s and women’s leagues, as well as the male and female Federation Cup competitions. It is part of TRC’s wider goal to strengthen clubs, improve player welfare and gradually move Gambian football towards a professional system.
For the Men’s First Division League, TRC is proposing D2 million for the champions, D1.5 million for the runners-up and D1 million for the third-placed team.
Every club participating in the Men’s First Division would also receive a preparatory support package of D250,000 before the start of the season.
For the Men’s Second Division League, the proposed prize money is D1 million for the champions, D700,000 for the runners-up and D400,000 for the third-placed team. Each participating club would also receive D200,000 as preparatory support.
TRC believes clubs should not enter a new season without basic financial assistance. Many teams struggle with transport, training equipment, player welfare, registration fees and other important expenses before competitions even begin.
The preparatory support is therefore meant to assist all clubs, not only the teams that finish among the top three.
Women’s football is also given an important place in the proposed package.
The champions of the Women’s First Division League would receive D1 million. The runners-up would receive D700,000, while the third-placed team would receive D400,000.
Each Women’s First Division club would also receive D200,000 to prepare for the season.
For the Women’s Second Division League, TRC proposes D700,000 for the champions, D500,000 for the runners-up and D250,000 for the third-placed team. Every participating club would receive a preparatory support package of D150,000.
The proposal also covers the Federation Cup competitions.
The winner of the Men’s Federation Cup would receive D1.5 million. The runners-up would receive D500,000, while the third-placed team would receive D250,000.
For the Women’s Federation Cup, the champions would receive D500,000, the runners-up D300,000 and the third-placed team D150,000.
This package is not only about increasing prize money. It is also about helping clubs become stronger, more stable and better organised.
TRC believes Gambian football cannot become professional if clubs continue to operate without enough financial support. Clubs need resources to pay players, improve training, employ qualified staff and plan properly for each season.
A stronger league can also attract more supporters, sponsors and business partners. This can create new opportunities for players, coaches, referees, administrators, journalists and many other people working within football.
As part of its league professionalisation plan, TRC intends to engage the Government of The Gambia and other partners to develop policies that support the growth of professional football.
The team will also seek stronger partnerships with the private sector, football bodies and other institutions that can help increase investment in the domestic game.
TRC’s position is that football development should not be measured only by the performance of the national team. It should also be measured by the strength of local clubs, the quality of domestic competitions and the opportunities available to players at home.
For Sadibou Kamaso and Team Restore Confidence, supporting league clubs is an investment in the future of Gambian football.
The goal is clear: stronger clubs, better competitions, greater opportunities and a more professional football system for both men and women.
