The Network of Human Rights Defenders in The Gambia (NHRDG) is making waves in the country’s fight for social justice and equality. Led by Chairperson Mr. Muhammed Bah, the network has been making significant strides since its inception. In a visit to the Beakanyang office, Mr. Bah briefed the team on the network’s progress and sought their continued support.
The meeting was held to update Beakanyang on the network’s achievements since its formation in late 2024. One of the major milestones is the successful registration of the NHRDG. Mr. Bah expressed his gratitude for the support and guidance provided by Beakanyang throughout this process. He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the two organizations in their shared mission to promote human rights in The Gambia.
The NHRDG’s Executive Director, Mr. Nfamara Jawneh, commended the network’s leadership for their impressive achievements thus far. He reiterated Beakanyang’s commitment to supporting the NHRDG in its endeavors. Mr. Jawneh’s endorsement further boosts the credibility and impact of the network’s work.
Accompanying Mr. Bah to the meeting was Mr. Dawda, the network’s Information and Public Relations Officer. Together, they presented an overview of the NHRDG’s activities, which include training workshops, advocacy campaigns, and community outreach programs. These efforts aim to empower and educate individuals on their rights as citizens of The Gambia.
The NHRDG’s formation was a result of a national training organized by Beakanyang as part of its UNDP supported Post-TRRC project. The network brings together a group of passionate human rights defenders who are committed to creating a more just society. Their work aligns with Beakanyang’s vision of a Gambia where all citizens are guaranteed their fundamental freedoms and rights.
One of the primary objectives of the NHRDG is to raise awareness of human rights issues and provide support to victims of human rights violations. They also work towards holding accountable those responsible for such violations. Through their advocacy efforts, the network aims to create a culture of respect for human rights in The Gambia.
Their partnership with Beakanyang has been instrumental in propelling the NHRDG’s impact. Beakanyang, a leading human rights organization in The Gambia, has been at the forefront of advocating for social justice and equality. Their collaboration with the NHRDG further strengthens their shared mission and amplifies their voices.
In conclusion, the NHRDG’s visit to Beakanyang serves as a testament to their achievements and a call for continued support towards their cause. As they continue to make strides in promoting and protecting human rights, their partnership with Beakanyang will play a crucial role in bringing about lasting change in The Gambia. Together, they are working towards a future where human rights are a reality for all.
