The Gambia and Arab Republic of Egypt Reaffirm Strategic Partnership as Foreign Ministers Meet in Cairo

 

BANJUL, 18th December 2025: The Gambia and the Arab Republic of Egypt on Wednesday, 17th December 2025, reaffirmed their long standing bilateral relations and shared commitment to deepening cooperation across diplomacy, security, justice reform, and capacity building, following an audience granted by the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdelatty, to his Gambian counterpart, Honourable Sering Modou Njie, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Cairo.

During the meeting, the Gambian Foreign Minister conveyed warm fraternal greetings from His Excellency President Adama Barrow to His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and expressed profound appreciation for Egypt’s consistent and principled support to The Gambia, particularly during the successful hosting of the 15th OIC Summit and throughout the country’s post 2017 political transition.

Honourable Njie commended Egypt’s long standing contributions in key sectors including education, health, defence, and security, and specifically lauded the construction of a state of the art Egyptian hospital in The Gambia, describing it as a landmark symbol of solidarity and practical cooperation between the two nations.

He further described Egypt as a strategic and reliable partner whose commitment to peace, stability, and democratic governance continues to strengthen confidence and resilience within the African region and beyond.

The ministers exchanged views on regional and international developments, reaffirming their shared positions on peace and security in Africa and the Middle East, and underscored the importance of multilateral cooperation within the African Union, the OIC, the United Nations, and other international fora.

In response, His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to The Gambia as a brotherly nation and expressed readiness to further expand bilateral cooperation in line with the priorities of both governments. He reiterated Egypt’s support for The Gambia’s development agenda and its efforts to consolidate peace, good governance, and institutional reform.

Both ministers agreed that closer collaboration, sustained high level dialogue, and mutual respect remain essential to addressing shared regional challenges and advancing the collective interests of their peoples. They also agreed to enhance follow up mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation of agreed areas of cooperation.

The meeting concluded in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the depth of friendship and the shared vision for a stronger and more dynamic partnership between The Gambia and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
