By: The Fatu Network News Desk

Senegal has inaugurated ISEVEM, a major state-backed defence industry project focused on the assembly and maintenance of military vehicles, with plans to gradually expand into wider defence equipment production.

The facility was inaugurated by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, alongside the Ministers of Industry and Trade and of the Armed Forces. Authorities have described the project as a significant step toward strengthening Senegal’s industrial and security sovereignty.

Developed through a partnership between the state and private investors, the project aims to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, build local technical and industrial capacity, and position Senegal as a serious actor in defence manufacturing.
