Sarah Jarju Finishes Joint-Top Scorer in WAFU-A Champions League Qualifiers

By: Madi Senghore

Gambian striker Sarah Jarju has finished as joint-top scorer of the WAFU-A CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers after an impressive campaign with Berewuleng FC.

Jarju scored four goals in Berewuleng FC’s 5-1 victory over Sierra Leone’s Mogbwemo Queens, taking her tournament tally to four goals and earning a share of the Golden Boot.

She finished level with Oumou Koné of Mali’s USFAS, who also scored four goals during the qualifiers.

The two forwards also shared the top-scorer award at the previous edition of the competition in Dakar, where they each scored three goals.

Jarju’s four-goal performance against Mogbwemo Queens was one of the standout individual displays of the tournament and underlined her growing reputation as one of The Gambia’s promising attacking talents.

Her performances have also drawn praise for her finishing, movement and work rate, as she consistently contributed to Berewuleng FC’s attacking play throughout the competition.

For coach Fakebba Saine and Gambian women’s football, Jarju’s emergence provides an encouraging sign ahead of future regional and continental competitions.

Her joint-top scoring finish further enhances her reputation and could pave the way for greater opportunities at both club and international level.
