Sabally Responds After MC Cham Jr Criticises President Barrow’s Remarks in Foni

MC Cham Jr of the Unite Movement for Change criticised President Adama Barrow’s recent remarks in Foni, calling them “a national disgrace” and saying the president travelled “only to talk about Yahya Jammeh” instead of addressing issues such as “the price of rice”, “the suffering of farmers”, “the collapse of our hospitals”, or “corruption in his government”.

Cham argued that the president “cannot speak about development because there is none” and further described Barrow as “a president trapped in yesterday’s battles”.

Special Presidential Adviser Momodou Sabally issued a response today, focusing on Cham’s credibility and his links to the Unite Movement for Change. Sabally called Cham “functionally illiterate” and alleged he was placed in the Kanifing Municipal Council “to aid and abet [KMC Mayor] Talib Bensouda’s plans”. He described the movement as “a front for the interests of a single individual and his family” and advised Cham to “be very careful of the roles he is being pushed into”.

Sabally also defended President Barrow’s ongoing nationwide tour, citing what he described as active development projects “worth billions” and naming works such as the UTG Faraba campus and road projects in Kabada, Kantora and Sukuta Nema. He said the president “spends most of his time working and lets the results speak for themselves”.

Both statements come amid continued debate over the focus and messaging of the president’s engagements during the tour and the criticisms raised by opposition-linked figures.
