The Gambia Democratic Congress has been dealt another major blow as their Sinchu Alhagie Ward Chairman, Ebrima Mbye, also known as Wuyeh Mbye, has announced his resignation and official joining of the UNITE party. Mbye played a crucial role in organizing GDC activities and rallying local support in Sinchu Alhagie. His departure is a significant loss for the GDC at the ward level.
This development comes amidst ongoing political turmoil within the GDC over their recent alliance with President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party. Many members are dissatisfied with the partnership, seeing it as a departure from the party’s traditional opposition to the Barrow administration.
Mbye’s departure is just one of many changes happening at the grassroots level as political parties gear up for the upcoming December 2026 presidential election. For UNITE, his move is a welcome boost as they look to expand their national presence and gain more support. This strengthens their grassroots network and sets them up for success in the upcoming election.
