PRO Dampha Labels Resigned Councillors as “Betrayers”

The Public Relations Officer of the Serrekunda Market, Sulayman Dampha, has described the recently resigned councillors from the UDP as “betrayers” of both taxpayers and the nation.

Speaking in an interview with this medium, Dampha said the councillors’ decision to quit the UDP at a critical time, as elections draw near, reflects a lack of loyalty and commitment.

“They should stand firmly with the party during this crucial moment. I believe they are only seeking positions, which is why they waited until now to resign,” he stated. “Leaving is not inherently wrong, but safeguarding one’s integrity is important. If they choose to resign from the party, they should also be bold enough to resign from their seats, since it is through the party that they secured those positions,” Dampha argued.

He further criticized the resigned councilors for what he described as a lack of clarity and purpose in their actions, saying they have failed to properly justify their departures.

“I think this is a planned attempt to tarnish the party’s reputation,” he claimed. “However, I can assure them that the party remains on the right track. This situation actually reinforces that the UDP is guided by principles. While their resignations are disappointing, it also benefits us as we do not need people who are only after positions. This clearly shows that the party will remain strong in the upcoming presidential elections.”

The Serre Kunda Market PRO expressed particular disappointment with KMC Mayor Talib Bensouda and Latrikunda Sabiji lawmaker Yaya Sanyang, both of whom recently announced their resignations from the UDP.

“UDP has nurtured these individuals throughout their political journeys, yet they chose to leave at a time that may have long-term consequences for them,” Dampha said. “Gambians trusted and elected them to represent the people. Why betray the UDP after all the sacrifices the party made for them?”
