Three Senegalese family members have died in a devastating house fire in Columbus, Ohio in the United States, which investigators say was deliberately started by their own son.

Authorities confirmed that 25-year-old Cheikh Dièye is believed to have ignited the blaze inside the family home on Freedom Trail, a residential street in the city, killing himself and his parents, Safietou Diop, 57, and Mame Dièye, 61.

Police body-cam footage released on Thursday shows officers struggling to enter the burning house, with the main door appearing to be blocked from inside.

Two people survived, a woman who jumped from the second floor and is in stable condition, and a child who was thrown from a window and remains in critical condition.

Local reports also cite nearly twenty previous 911 calls to the address over domestic disputes, pointing to long-standing family tensions.

The Senegalese community in Columbus has since organised prayers, support gatherings and a GoFundMe campaign while investigators work to determine the motive behind the tragedy.
