National Alliance for Accelerated Advancement (Nafaa) leader, Ousainou Allen, has said the “last minute” rush of laying foundation stones and inaugurating projects” by President Adama Barrow “will not fool” Gambians in the December 2026 election.
Addressing a political rally organised by his party and the National Democratic Party in Nema Kunku on Saturday, Allen said Gambians have become politically conscious and will no longer be swayed by hastily rolling out project close to elections.
He stated: “You can have a huge amount of wealth but if you don’t have a supportive system and partners, development can be difficult. A government should be assessed based on its full term record in office and not on what it does in the last few months to election,” he stated.
“Look at the education sector, the exams results and the number of failures after all the school fees and struggles parents and guardians had to pay. It is disheartening. So let’s say no to last minute development,” he said.
He used the platform to explain why his alliance with the NDP has ruled out any partnership with the ruling National People’s Party. He said after months of consultations, they deliberately decided against joining the incumbent because their values do not align.
“Our political values do not align with the NPP’s and unless they change trajectory, there will be no alliance with them.”
NDP leader Kebba Madi Bojang told the rally they want to usher in changes in how the country is run and that NDP and Nafaa’s political perspectives aligned.
He advised youths not to allow anyone to fool them and to always ask the right questions to any politician who attempted to mislead them, saying politicians must have backbone and integrity.
The two leaders said they will tour the country and sell their agenda to Gambian voters.
