Farmers representatives across the country have been urged to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices to strengthen food security and build resilience against the effects of climate change. The call was made during the closing of a three-day capacity-building programme organized by the National Coordinating Organization of Farmers Association of The Gambia (NACOFAG).
Speaking at the event, Musa F. Sowe underscored the importance of the training, saying it has equipped farmers with the knowledge and skills to diversify their agricultural production, improve productivity, and better adapt to the changing climate.
Deputy Governor of the West Coast Region, Musa Amul Nyassi, commended NACOFAG for organizing the initiative. He emphasized that climate change is everyone’s responsibility and urged participants to put the knowledge gained into practice and share it with fellow farmers to strengthen community resilience.
On behalf of the participants, Michelle Mendy, president of the network of women in environment and development, expressed appreciation to NACOFAG and its partners for the training. He assured the organizers that participants would apply the skills acquired to improve their farming activities and contribute to sustainable agricultural development.
The three-day programme forms part of efforts to empower farmers with practical knowledge to mitigate the impacts of climate change while promoting sustainable and diversified agricultural production.
