MP Demands Dodou Sanno’s Account Over Ex-President’s Missing Tractors

Tension mounted at the National Assembly on Friday as the Special Select Committee investigating the assets of former President Yahya Jammeh intensified its probe, with lawmakers demanding clarity over missing tractors allegedly linked to senior government officials.

Appearing before the committee for the fourth time, Sergeant Adama Jange of the Gambia Armed Forces came under heavy scrutiny for what lawmakers described as inconsistent and evasive testimony regarding the management of vehicles and farm equipment seized from Jammeh’s properties.

Hon. Omar Jatto Jammeh led the questioning, accusing the witness of repeatedly contradicting himself and failing to provide satisfactory answers.

“You can run, but you cannot hide,” the lawmaker told Jange. “We are here on a fact-finding mission, and you need to be truthful to this committee.”

The session took a dramatic turn when Sergeant Jange alleged that Presidential Adviser Dodou Sanno had removed a tractor and trailer from Jammeh’s seized assets. The revelation prompted Hon. Jammeh to immediately file an application requesting that Sanno be summoned to provide his own statement on the matter, a request the committee chairperson swiftly granted.

Hon. Jammeh further applied for Sergeant Jange to submit a comprehensive list of all personnel who worked with him at the Kanifing and Kotu depots, along with written statements from each. He also demanded Jange’s bank statements from 2017 to 2023 to aid the committee’s financial tracing efforts. Though the lawmaker initially requested the documents by Wednesday, the chairperson extended the deadline to Friday.

The committee also revisited questions surrounding ambulances reportedly removed from the Motor Services Agency (MSA). Jange told the committee that one was taken by a doctor identified as Dr. Sowe, while others were allegedly collected by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and private individuals, responses lawmakers criticized as “vague and inconsistent.”

Lead Counsel Lamin M. Dibba later requested that Sergeant Jange reappear before the committee in a closed-door session on Monday, as the inquiry enters a more sensitive phase.

The National Assembly committee is expected to resume public hearings on October 20, 2025, as the investigation into Jammeh’s vast and disputed assets deepens.
