The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MoTWI) on Monday 6th October 2025, signed a contract with Conseil-Ingenierie et Recherche Appliquée (CIRA) for the consultancy services related to the feasibility studies, detailed design, and supervision of works for the expansion of the 3.5 km Bund Road (Cotton Street) project. This initiative is a key component of the 4th Port Expansion Project, which is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and executed by the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA).
Mr. Samba C. Mballow, Permanent Secretary of the MoTWI, emphasized the significance of the Bund Road in the context of the port expansion project.
“This is a critical road infrastructure that will assist in the flood relief efforts for the city,” he said.
The expansion of the Bund Road is expected to enhance connectivity and support the overall development of the region.
Mr. Cheikh Hamidou Kane, Regional Director for CIRA, expressed gratitude to the government for their trust and support. He highlighted his company’s strong track record of delivering quality services across various countries and assured stakeholders that the project would be executed to the highest standards.
The ceremony was attended by key officials, including Deputy Permanent Secretaries of MoTWI, the Managing Director of the Gambia Ports Authority, the Acting Managing Director of the National Roads Authority, the Project Coordinator, and senior staff from the Ministry, along with the Project Implementation Officer.
This project marks a significant step forward in improving the infrastructure necessary for the continued growth and development of the Gambia’s transport network, ultimately benefiting the ports community.
