Mai Fatty Backs Barrow as Gambia’s Most Viable Political Leader

By Kemo Kanyi

The former Interior Minister, Mai Ahmad Fatty, leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), has described President Adama Barrow as the most viable political leader in the country at the moment.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Mai Fatty called on citizens, particularly grassroots and community leaders, to remain steadfast in supporting the National People’s Party (NPP)-led alliance, arguing that the opposition lacks credible alternatives capable of governing the nation.

“We do not see outside the alliance any credible or viable alternative in The Gambia today,” he said. “We urge every Gambian, every political leader, every opinion leader, and every community leader, men, women, and the youth to remain loyal and committed behind the NPP-led alliance.”

Mai Fatty expressed confidence that the alliance will secure victory in the upcoming 2026 presidential election, noting that they intend to conduct a “clean, effective, and issue-oriented campaign” across the country.

He maintained that Gambians have come to recognize the strength and unity of the coalition supporting President Barrow, which he described as “solid, strong, and committed” to ensuring continuity and stability in governance.

According to the GMC leader, the alliance remains convinced that the progress achieved under President Barrow’s leadership must be sustained. He added that the coalition continues to believe in what he called the President’s “visionary leadership” and his commitment to national development.
