Christmas Message: President Barrow says the Gambia registers enormous progress despite challenges

President Adama Barrow has commended The Gambia’s security forces, farmers, healthcare workers and other frontline workers for their role in maintaining peace, stability and national progress in his 2025 Christmas broadcast.

In his address to the nation, President Barrow said the country’s continued calm and resilience were the result of collective effort by citizens across all sectors, particularly those working to protect lives, feed the nation and care for the sick.

“As my recent Meet the People Tour confirms, Gambians continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience and unity in the face of challenges,” he said, praising farmers, teachers, healthcare workers and the security services for their contribution to national development.

The President said despite global economic pressures, The Gambia has continued to make steady progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education and democratic governance.

He also highlighted the country’s record of religious tolerance, describing The Gambia as a beacon of peaceful coexistence where Christians and Muslims live side by side in mutual respect.

President Barrow urged Gambians to draw inspiration from the Christmas message of service and compassion by supporting the vulnerable, visiting the sick and elderly, and extending help to those in need.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving living standards and creating opportunities, especially for young people and women, while calling for unity and solidarity in addressing national challenges.

The President concluded by wishing Christians a Merry Christmas and all Gambians a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.
