Lord Mayor Bensouda Engages Bakoteh Dump Stakeholders to Enhance Site Management

This morning, Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda convened a pivotal meeting with key stakeholders of the Bakoteh Dump Site to address pressing concerns and outline strategies for improved site management.

The gathering brought together scavengers, donkey cart owners, tricycle operators, dump site staff, and was spearheaded by the Dump Site Manager, Lamin Camara. Discussions focused on critical issues such as recycling, security, and fire prevention, which have long posed challenges at the facility.

Speaking during the meeting, Mayor Bensouda emphasized the need for collective action and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the site’s sustainability and efficiency. “This meeting underscores our commitment to transforming Bakoteh Dump into a more secure, efficient, and environmentally friendly space. By working together, we can implement recycling initiatives, enhance security, and establish robust fire prevention measures to mitigate risks,” he stated.

Lamin Camara, the Dump Site Manager, echoed the Mayor’s sentiments and highlighted the importance of stakeholder involvement. “The active participation of everyone who works at or relies on this site is crucial. Together, we can improve waste management practices and ensure a safer environment for all,” he noted.

The meeting also explored opportunities for formalizing the roles of scavengers and cart operators in the waste management system, ensuring their contributions are better integrated into ongoing recycling efforts. Additionally, plans to install fire-fighting equipment and enhance site security were warmly welcomed by attendees.

The Bakoteh Dump Site has long been a focal point for waste management challenges in the region. This initiative, led by Mayor Bensouda, marks a significant step toward addressing these issues and fostering a cleaner, safer community.

Stakeholders left the meeting with renewed optimism, as they pledged to work closely with municipal authorities to implement the proposed changes and advance the shared goal of better site management.
