Today, the Ministry of Health begins a vital national Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign, with support from WHO, UNICEF, and other partners. This initiative, running from October 23 to 28, is more than just a health program; it is a national call to action to protect our children and secure their future.
Measles and rubella are highly contagious diseases that can lead to severe complications or death, especially in unvaccinated children. While rubella may seem mild, it poses a deadly risk to unborn babies if contracted during pregnancy. Thankfully, both diseases are preventable through safe and effective vaccination.
We urge all parents and caregivers to take their children ages 9 to 59 months to the nearest vaccination post. This campaign also includes vitamin A supplementation, deworming, and catch-up vaccines for missed doses – providing a holistic approach to child health.
Schools, daycare centers, community leaders, and religious institutions must open their doors to EPI officials. Access is crucial to reach every child. To fully eliminate measles and rubella, we need unity, awareness, and cooperation. Together, we can build a healthier nation.
