Killa Ace bags Human Rights in Action Award 2025

Outspoken rapper and activist Killa Ace, whose real name is Ali Cham, has scooped the coveted Human Rights in Action Award, a recognition organised by ANEKED to honour individuals and institutions pushing the frontlines of human rights in The Gambia and beyond.

Ace, who could not make it to the ceremony, revealed he was unexpectedly tied up with urgent duties for “the movement,” closely monitoring the case of detained individuals to ensure their rights were respected and to secure their release.

“Thank God they have all been released and we hope things get better,” he said, stressing his commitment to the struggle.

Representing him on the night was his nephew Mattar Cham, “my nephew but like a son to me,” Ace proudly noted, who attended on his behalf after last-minute chaos forced a change of plans.

In a message of solidarity, the award-winning activist dedicated the honour to fellow human rights defenders.

“I share this award with everyone in the same category and with every human rights defender who plays a part in this struggle one way or another,” he said.

Killa Ace, famed for his fearless lyrics and relentless advocacy, vowed to keep the fight alive.

“The struggle continues and the youth must be protected. Let’s unite for a better Gambia,” he said.

  1. What a twist! Killa Ace MIA at his own award, dedicated to the struggle while presumably still *struggling* to get someone to attend. Unexpected urgent duties for the movement, really? Sounds like someone’s still got a lot of energy left over after ensuring all were released – maybe the release paperwork took longer than expected? His nephew stepping in must’ve been a last-minute scramble, indeed. Well, at least the message is clear: the fight goes on, and maybe the youth need a bit more protection from… well, Killa Ace’s relentless advocacy? Let’s hope unite for a better Gambia doesn’t just mean uniting to listen to his fearless lyrics non-stop! Keep the struggle alive, but maybe pace yourself, Ace!compress images free

  2. What a spectacle! Killa Ace MIA while dedicating his award to the struggle – talk about meta! Urgent duties for the movement? Sounds like his version of urgent is longer than ours. His nephew stepping in mustve been like, Dad, you cant miss *this* again! And the commenters are having a field day, analyzing the release paperwork timing – Ace better have a good explanation! Protect the youth? Maybe start with keeping his own plans less chaotic? Still, the struggle continues – lets hope it doesnt keep him MIA from future events!act two video
