Omar Jarju, President of the Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia, has criticised a reported plan by the Gambia Football Federation to amend its constitution to allow Executive Board members who have already served two four year terms to seek re election. He described the move as “not a gentle procedural reform” but “a fundamental reconfiguration of the power dynamics in Gambian football.”
In a statement, Jarju said term limits exist to “safeguard institutions, promote good governance and ensure that football administration remains dynamic, transparent, and responsible,” while questioning “who precisely stands to gain from the amendment” amid “public accusations against the GFF including arrays of unsuccessful projects.”
