IEC Registers UNITE, All-Inclusive Party as Political Parties

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has officially registered the UNITE Movement as a political party, marking its transition from a political movement to a recognised party ahead of future elections.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the IEC announced that UNITE was registered on 1 July 2026 under Section 106 of the Elections Act 2025.

“The Independent Electoral Commission wishes to bring to your notice that UNITE has been registered as a political party in The Gambia on 1st July 2026 under Section 106 of the Elections Act 2025,” the commission stated.

According to the IEC, the party is led by Talib Ahmed Bensouda, with its secretariat located at Kololi (CFXJ-502).

The commission said the party’s acronym is UNITE, while its colours are one horizontal red stripe, one horizontal white stripe and one horizontal blue stripe.

Its symbol is two upward-facing palms holding cola nuts, and its motto is: “Unite for Nation. Integrity, Transformation and Equality.”

In a separate press release, the IEC also announced the registration of the All Inclusive Party (AIP) under Section 106 of the Elections Act 2025.

The commission said AIP is led by Yiramang Darboe and has its secretariat at Brusubi Phase 1.

According to the IEC, the party’s acronym is AIP, its colours are two red stripes and white below, while its symbol is an eagle standing on an equal sign.

The party’s motto is: “Equal Representation and Justice for All.”
