In a bid to build youth capacity in vegetable production and agribusiness, the Holistic Agribusiness Solution Agricultural Training Center in Balingho, Upper Badibou District of the North Bank Region, continues to train young Gambians in integrated agriculture. The institution has enrolled its seventh batch of trainees for a two-year intensive programme, while the fifth graduation ceremony, involving 18 students, is scheduled for 1st November 2025.
Momodou Bah, Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Development Organization and Holistic Agribusiness Solution, commended the Sabab-Luo Foundation and its German partners for complementing government efforts in promoting agricultural skills among youths.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Voice, he said the centre’s training initiatives have contributed significantly to youth employment and rural development.
Commenting on the centre’s new partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) through its Agriculture Accelerator Hub Program, CEO Bah revealed that the collaboration aims to enhance staff capacity and support ten ex-students in agribusiness development.
“FAO will provide grant support to the five best ex-students with agricultural materials worth D250,000 to help them kick-start or expand their agribusiness ventures,” he disclosed.
He further noted that three students from the current graduating batch have already secured employment and encouraged other youths to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the centre and its partners.
Migan Romain, Livestock and Aquaculture Manager, highlighted the progress of the aquaculture initiative, with two operational fishponds containing 500 catfish each. The project, he explained, serves both training and production purposes, equipping students with practical skills in fish farming.
He added that the centre currently manages 2,200 poultry layers, producing about 60 crates of eggs daily for the market.
“Our eggs have longer shelf life because the birds are fed organic supplements, which also enhance consumer health,” he said.
Romain urged consumers to support locally produced eggs to reduce dependency on imported products.
Ismaila Colley, Field Trainer, emphasised the importance of large-scale agroforestry production in ecosystem restoration and food security. He commended the Jarra Soma Scout Centre for sending students for a three-month practical attachment at the Balingho training centre.
One of the trainees, Fatou Darboe from Soma Scout Centre, described the attachment as “life-changing,” saying it provided her with valuable knowledge and practical skills in agricultural production.
Rachidi Oke, Production Unit Head, thanked students for their dedication and reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to expanding vegetable production to supply markets and serve as a model training hub for future farmers.

Haha, what a fantastic read! Its heartwarming to see all these young folks getting their hands dirty – literally! From fish farming to egg laying with superpowers, its like a agricultural version of a superhero academy. And the FAO grant? Now *thats* a power-up! Though, I wonder if the D250,000 worth of materials will be enough to cover the potential egg explosions caused by the organic supplements. Either way, good luck to them all in their agribusiness adventures – may their businesses flourish and their shelf life for eggs be long!đồng hồ đếm ngược 5 phút
