Green-up Gambia and partners conduct tree planting exercise at Tanbi Wetland

Green-Up Gambia earlier today, partnered with Childcare Gambia and Lend a Hand Gambia on a massive Mangrove Restoration exercise at Tanbi Wetland in Bakau.

The exercise brought together school-going kids, youths, and members of the Kanifing Municipal Council in planting fifteen thousand (15,000) Mangrove Propagules in a colorful activity at Tanbi Wetland.

Due to mangroves’ roots, which anchor the plants into underwater sediment, nutrients and organic material from the tidal waves enrich the soils, giving mangroves the ability to store carbon.

Planting mangroves also reduces shoreline erosion and protects coastal communities against coastal flooding, high winds and waves, and tsunamis.
