GRA launches pilot phase of the electronic invoicing system

The Gambia Revenue Authority presented the initial stage of their Value Added Tax (VAT) Electronic invoicing system on Wednesday. The launch took place at the Revenue House in Banjul and was attended by the Commissioner General, high-ranking GRA officials, a representative from the Ministry of Finance, partners, and members of the media. This move towards paperless invoicing is a significant step in the country’s efforts to streamline tax administration.
According to project manager Mari Sarr, the pilot phase is the result of months of careful planning and testing with government departments, taxpayers, and partners. Sarr expressed gratitude to the Commissioner General for his role in ensuring the successful implementation of the project.
The project manager at Worldwide Avatar Technologies, Ali Hassan, assured that the new system will facilitate secure real-time transmission and data transactions with the GRA in a more efficient and fair manner.
Alagie Jallow, Director of Revenue and Tax Policy at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, described the e-invoicing system as a crucial element in the government’s digital transformation agenda. He called on businesses and other stakeholders to comply with the new system while urging media outlets to promote it through various platforms.
In his launch statement, Yankuba Darboe, Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority, hailed the initiative as more than just a project launch, but a vital part of GRA’s digitalization efforts. He emphasized that digitalization is no longer a choice but a necessity, as many countries around the world have already transitioned from manual paperwork to paperless invoicing. The Gambia cannot afford to lag behind in this journey.
The new system, Darboe continued, will eliminate paperwork and enhance record-keeping, reduce human error, enable accurate tax reporting, and lower compliance costs for businesses. It also aims to facilitate real-time transactions, ensuring a more efficient tax system.
