The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) launched a five-day In-service Training Course at the GID Training School in Tanji on 11th August 2025.
The initiative forms part of the GID reform strategies aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and professionalism in immigration services, developing the GID Training School (GIDTS) into an in-service training center that enhances capacity development, promotes knowledge sharing, and professionalism in migration governance services.
From the 11th to 15th August 2025, twenty-five GID Staff, selected across diverse regions, will gain in depth and practical understanding of Immigration Laws, Policies and Procedures, Border Security and Irregular Migration Control, Document Verification and Fraud Detection, Professionalism, Ethics and Human Rights, and Crisis Management and Emergency Response. All modules will be facilitated by experts and season GID personnel with decades of experience in immigration matters.
Speaking at the Opening ceremony, the Assistant Director General of Immigration Olimatou Jammeh (Administration) emphasized the ever-evolving immigration and security dynamics, thus, making it crucial for GID Staff to stay updated with the latest security methodologies and technologies.
She expressed optimism that the training will provide participants with invaluable tools and strategies to enhance their responsibilities, boosting their competency level, promoting efficiency and effective service delivery, while exposing them to current realities and international best practices in immigration regulation.
The leadership of the GID remains committed to addressing capacity gaps, streamlining immigration role with modern approaches and technology, while empowering its personnel with requisite skills in integrated border and information management systems.
