Gambia to Host 54th CPA Africa Regional Conference

The Gambia National Assembly will host the Official Opening Ceremony of the 54th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Regional Conference on Wednesday, 13th August 2025, at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre.

Themed “Strengthening Democratic Governance and Resilience in Africa: Tackling Conflicts, Economic Shocks, and Climate Risks,” the event marks the first time The Gambia is hosting the CPA Africa Region’s flagship annual conference.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, will preside over the conference in his capacity as President of the CPA Africa Region. His leadership has played a key role in The Gambia’s preparations and in shaping a legislative agenda focused on resilience, inclusion, and accountability across the continent.

Over 300 delegates are expected to attend, including Speakers and Members of Parliament, Clerks, Secretariat Officials, Observers, and Development Partners from national and sub-national parliaments across Africa.

The five-day conference will feature workshops, committee meetings, and plenary sessions addressing critical issues such as governance, economic recovery, climate resilience, inclusive development, and digital innovation.

The conference aims to strengthen parliamentary collaboration and underscores The Gambia’s growing commitment to democratic governance and regional cooperation.
